Hi, my name is Robyn Morrison. I will be ordained in the Church Within A Church Movement on October 23.
Years ago, I made the choice to follow Jesus and that choice was inspired by the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. The Samaritan woman responded to the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus by running back to her village and declaring to everyone, "Come and see this man who knows everything about me and still loves me." I know that that's the way Jesus feels about our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans gender friends and family.
A year ago, I was forced to make a choice between continuing my path to be a United Methodist pastor or living with the man I love who is also a United Methodist pastor. My daughter came to visit me and we were sitting on the couch holding each other with tears streaming down our faces. My daughter said to me, "Mom, I don't know why you ever wanted to be ordained in the United Methodist Church. I would never have anything to do with your church because of what they teach about my sexual identity. I know that Jesus loves me."
Like the woman at the well, my response to the love of Jesus is to do the same thing. To go out to the marginalized, the outcast, the judged, and the oppressed and tell of Jesus' love and acceptance. I want to minister to people who won't have anything to do with churches who judge their sexual identity is wrong. I know that Jesus loves them.
And that is why I have chosen to be ordained in the Church Within A Church Movement. Please join us for the ordination on October 23.
